寒假经典文学写作课

This course mainly focuses on the grammar errors that many 4^th-6^th graders make.  Students will work on correcting their grammatical errors in their sentences and paragraphs.  Students will write paragraphs without run-on sentences and include description and details in their writing.  Homework will be assigned to reinforce these skills by completing grammar exercises as well as a writing component.  Feedback will be provided for students to correct their writing assignment.  Writing examples will be used by incorporating classical literature into the lessons.

WEEK 1

Classic Literature:  The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

Lesson 1:  Writing in the present tense vs. progressive tense and combining sentences

Lesson 2:  Writing complex sentences and adverbs

Lesson 3:  Working on run-on sentences and prepositional phrases

WEEK 2

Classic Literature:  The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Lesson 4:  Writing in the future tense with complex sentences

Lesson 5:  Using Definite and indefinite articles with plural nouns

Lesson 6: Subordinating conjunctions and commas

WEEK 3

Classic Literature:  Black Beauty

Lesson 7: Varying sentences by adding descriptions and details

Lesson 8: Adjective clauses (who vs. that)

Lesson 9: Using Modals to add meaning

WEEK 4

Classic Literature:  The Wizard of Oz

Lesson 10: Sequencing in both expository, argumentative and narrative writing

Lesson 11:  Writing a paragraph with a focus on the verb tense – topic sentence and supporting sentences

Lesson 12: Writing a paragraph with combined sentences and concluding sentences
